The history of biomass started when cave men discovered fire. They used fire to create heat, cook food, and for light. By the 1970s, scientists started being interested in replacing fossil fuels with a more reliable/cheaper source. Around 1975, it got the name "Biomass" In the 1980s, the Office of Technology Assessment estimated that one fourths of the United States energy needs can be fulfilled by this source. Right now they are being used by burning the waste. The future use of biomass would be algae and cellulosic ethanol which will be cleaner and safer.
Biomass is the most used renewable energy source in the U.S.
